The Tandi tradition
From a young village carver to an international sculptor.
For Tendekayi, carving began as childhood play beside his father’s work in rural Zimbabwe. That early curiosity grew into a lifelong practice, shaped by stone, patience and the human stories that live within each form.
Today, Tandi Shona Arts brings together a family and community of skilled Zimbabwean artists. Each sculpture is hand-carved and finished in natural stone, with its colour, movement and character respected rather than hidden.
